Tables

Post by hardyb »

I am sure this is just my stupidity or failure to read instructions right, but I would be very grateful of some advice regarding keeping my table on the page.

I have a 2 column paper.

If I set columns to %column width I cannot seem to keep the table on the page pretty much what ever I do.

So I am using %text width. I had expected my %s to need to add up to roughly 100. But it seems with 7 columns I have to set each to 7% and then the table fits exactly the column (but not the text strangely, rather the column).

I wanted it to be a little smaller than this so I set 3 of the columns to just 5% and went straight off the page to the right.

I think I am obviously misunderstanding the meaning of these settings and I would be grateful of some advice.

I had used images for my tables successfully saved to pdf but when I export from pdf acrobat professional to word the images are completely unreadable. Also the ones in the pdf are a little small too.

As for the table, the reason they don't add up as you expected is that a lot of space in the table is taken up by the dividers of the columns (and the space associated with them).

OK.

I was surprised it was as much as 50% though

7 columns 7% each 49% of the length
