Problems in fixing Errors

Post by MrJeMo11 »

I am writing my 11th report in Latex at the moment. I am getting a bunch of error codes which I cannot find a solution for.

My preambles are:

Code: Select all

\documentclass[12pt,danish,a4paper]{report}
\usepackage[hang,bf,small]{caption}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage[danish]{babel}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage{
t1enc,
fancyhdr,
booktabs,
graphicx,
lmodern,
babel,
ulem,
microtype,
breakcites,
mhchem,
mathtools,
textcomp,
float,
url,
remreset
}
\makeatletter
\@removefromreset{footnote}{chapter}
\renewcommand\paragraph{
   \@startsection{paragraph}{4}{0mm}
      {-\baselineskip}
      {.5\baselineskip}
      {\normalfont\normalsize\bfseries}}
\makeatother
My table of contents is messing up because of this.

The errors are as following:

Code: Select all

I can't figure out why you would want to use a tab mark
here. If you just want an ampersand, the remedy is
simple: Just type `I\&' now. But if some right brace
up above has ended a previous alignment prematurely,
you're probably due for more error messages, and you
might try typing `S' now just to see what is salvageable.

Problems in fixing Errors

Post by Stefan Kottwitz »

Hi,

this preamble doesn't produce such a problem. I tested it with a chapter and a section, the table of contents is fine.

There are errors in your log file caused by lines you did not post. Please post a complete but minimal example, which shows the problem when compiling. Otherwise you hide code which contains the error and we cannot help. Note, you don't need to post your document text, just reduce a copy as much as possible, as long as it produces the error.

See: What is a minimal working example.

\subsection{Klimadata - Jesper}

\subsection{Vands egenskaber - Jesper}
\subsubsection{Dissociation \footnote{Kemi 2000 B-Niveau af Helge Mygind}}

\subsubsection{Den konstante fordampning \footnote{An examination of the concept of potential evaporation af R.J. Granger} - Jesper}

\begin{figure}[H]
\centering
\caption{Specifik fordampningsvarme}
\begin{tabular}{|ll|c|c|}
\hline

\end{tabular}
\label{fig:c}
\end{figure}\footnote{Orbit B$_{htx}$ af Per Holck, Jens Kraaer og Birgitte Merci Lund}

\begin{equation}
Q=1 [kg]*4180 [\frac{J}{kg*^{\circ}C}] * (100[^{\circ}C]-20 [^{\circ}C]) + \frac{2260 [J]}{1 [kg]} = \uuline{336660 [J]}
\label{fig:reg}
\end{equation}

\subsection{Opsamling af regnvand - Jeppe}
Regnvandsopsamling er en langtidsholdbar løsning, der både mindsker \ce{CO2} udslip og forbrug af jordens begrænsede resurser.\footnote{\url{http://www.plantetorvet.dk/Haveudstyr/regnvandsopsamling.html} (24.08.11)}
Med en regnvandsopsamler  er det muligt at få gratis \ce{CO2} neutralt vand der på ingen forurener eller belaster miljøet.\footnote{\url{http://www.save-the-rain.com/world-bank/} (25.08.11)}

\subsection{Den asiatiske trussel for miljøet - Jesper}
Finanskrisen er over os. Den globale økonomi er under recession. Sådan lyder en stor del af nyhederne vi får i dag. Men det er ikke den fulde sandhed for finanskrisen har næsten ikke ramt Asien. Asien og især Kina er under stor vækst. Siden 2003 har Kina haft årlige vækstrater på over 10 procent i BNP\footnote{\url{http://www.b.dk/verden/fortsat-stor-vaekst-i-kina} (21.08.11)}. Den økonomiske vækst i Kina er så kraftig at udledningen af drivhusgasser fra kinesiske biler, kraftværker og industrivirksomheder om få år vil være større end amerikanernes. I Kina oplever man ofte strømudfald fordi de Kinesiske kraftværker ikke kan levere strøm til det konstant stigende forbrug af elektriske apparater. \textit{"Således skyldtes 40 pct. af væksten i energiforbruget i Shanghai øget brug af aircondition"} forklarer Barbara Finamore der er direktør for det amerikanske China Clean Energi Projekt. Problemerne med at levere strøm nok er så store, at den kinesiske regering overvejer at lægge en dæmper på væksten\footnote{\url{http://viden.jp.dk/klima/destinationer/kina/reportager/default.asp?cid=124884} (21.08.11)}. \textit{"Men myndighederne er helt klar over problemet og de nationale konsekvenser, hvis det ikke lykkes at få økonomien til at vokse uden at øge energiforbruget tilsvarende. Så vil det få alvorlig indflydelse på luftforureningen, landbrugsproduktionen, den voksende mængde sur regn og ikke mindst befolkningens sundhed. Verdensbanken antager, at forurening fra den stigende energiproduktion alene i dag har så stor indflydelse på befolkningens sundhed, at det koster Kina 7 pct. af landets BNP. Derfor er regeringen klar over, at noget skal gøres"}
\subsection{Aircondition - Jesper}

Som det blev beskrevet i foregående afsnit er airconditions blandt de mest energikrævende elektriske apparater vi har. \textit{"Airconditionanlæg bruger faktisk så meget energi, at de i praksis vil være umulige at benytte i nye byggerier med de EU-energikrav, der er trådt i kraft i foråret"} siger civilingeniør, ph.d. Peter Weitzmann fra Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)\footnote{\url{http://ing.dk/artikel/72303-vandkoeling-skal-afloese-aircondition} (21.08.11)}. Den offentlige organisation \textit{Go' Energi} udtrykker følgende: \textit{"Aircondition bruger store mængder strøm, og du bør derfor så vidt muligt tænke i andre metoder, når din bolig skal afkøles så miljøvenligt som muligt."} \footnote{\url{http://www.goenergi.dk/forbruger/huset/indeklima/koling} (22.08.11)}

\subsubsection{Airconditionens historie \footnote{\url{http://www.facstaff.bucknell.edu/mvigeant/therm_1/AC_final/bg.htm} (23.08.11)}}

\paragraph{År $\approx$1000 fkr. - $\approx$0}

\paragraph{År 200}

\paragraph{År 1758}

\paragraph{År 1902}

\ce{C2H3Cl + O2 -> CO2+H2O+Cl2} \medskip \newline
\ce{Cl2 + H2O <=>  HClO + HCl} \medskip \newline

Okay. Thank you very much. I have a hard time understanding "What is a minimal working example" is about but is the idea that I am supposed to continue deleting from the document until the error disappears? I am generally new to coding and programming and so on so those kinds of manuals are difficult to understand but if I have understood the essential parts right you has been a great help ;)

This is exactly the intention. You are going to delete code successively until an error disappears. Hence the last deleted piece of code is the culprit. If you are not able to fix the error by yourself, add the last deleted code again and post the example here. Proceed this way with all the errors and you have your minimal example that will enable us to help.
