Beamer Shadow Problem

Post by davidpage »

The problem:
The shadow generated using the beamer presentation class is weird... as follows:
shadow1.png
shadow1.png (32.87 KiB) Viewed 10727 times
shadow2.png
shadow2.png (28.4 KiB) Viewed 10727 times
It is supposed to be a continuous grey shadow below the box, but instead only two dots appeared.

The code I used:

Code: Select all

Code, edit and compile here:
\documentclass{beamer}
\usetheme{Warsaw}
\title{Example title}
\author{The author}
\begin{document}
\begin{frame}
\titlepage
\end{frame}
\begin{frame}
\begin{theorem}
2+2=4
\end{theorem}
\end{frame}
\end{document}

Beamer Shadow Problem

I can't comprehend the problem. See the attachment for the result. May be a matter of package versions. Add the \listfiles commands as very first line to the sample code. Post the section between *File List* and *********** from the log file here. For comparison see my list below.

Actually what I want is a continuous shadow, something like the bottom box in the figure below (instead of just having two "dots" - one at bottom-left and one top-right - as shown in the upper box of the same figure).

I absolutely realize what you want. If you compared the two lists, you would have noticed that at least your version of the beamer class is older than mine. I suggest just to update your LaTeX system.

I've upgraded to beamer 3.07. Now I find that I can see a continuous shadow when the pdf is viewed full-screen, but still the same two dots when I quit full-screen mode. Is this normal?

I can't tell you. With my sample document from an earlier post there's no problem in full screen mode (Okular on openSUSE). Just attach your resulting output so we can test it.

Beamer Shadow Problem

It seems alright now after I've also upgraded Adobe reader, but still occasionally I do get files that won't show the shadow correctly outside full screen mode.

The following is a pdf file created, which happens to be OK.

Re: Beamer Shadow Problem

I'm having a problem closely related to this:
https://bitbucket.org/rivanvx/beamer/is ... when-using
http://www.slideshare.net/linjaaho/late ... al-7275984

To summarize: the shadows of boxes are distorted, when using a Flash based pdf viewer. Weird. If I turn the shadows off:
\setbeamertemplate{blocks}[rounded][shadow=false]
then the blocks disappear.
