custom strikethrough/xout/juxtaposing characters?
Even just with single characters, xout from the ulem package doesn't quite work, as it doesn't slash on a letter-by-letter basis, but based on the width of the text. I looked at the corresponding code, but couldn't really figure it out.
So, any advice/suggestions (would be much appreciated)?

have a look at the cancel package, it is able to strike out any part of a formula.
