Hi,
I have Texwork and MiKtex installed on my laptop as well as Lyx but I'm not able to compile my Lyx documents using the PdfLatex tool.
When I open my Lyx documents I get a message that says: 'The the layout file layout.file by this document is not usable. This is probably because a LaTex class or style file require by it is not available.'
And when I ignore that, open the file and use the pdflatex tool I get a messsage that says: 'No information for exporting the format PDF (pdflatex).'
Please help if you know what is going on.
By the way I'm able to produce pfd files using texworks on my laptop.

Probably LyX hasn't recognized the path to LaTeX related stuff. Try this in LyX:
1. Tools > Reconfigure. Restart LyX after reconfiguration is done.
2. Tools > TeX Information. Check "Show Path" checkbox and see if the path is correct (you may try with "Rescan" if the path isn't recognized).
If all fails, you should check your MikTeX path (path to binaries like pdflatex), and enter that path in Tools > Preferences > Paths > PATH Prefix. If you aren't able to tell the path, take a look at TeXWorks preferences, it should be there, in "Typesetting" tab, the first one in the list. Of course, after you set the path manually, you should repeat steps 1. and 2. mentioned above too.

I'm not able to test that, since I'm not using Windows/MikTex, but you should check your python installation (I think it should come bundled with LyX) and your LyX installation. Only thing I can tell you is to try to reinstall LyX and see if anything changes.
Since this seems to be a technical problem, you may get more relevant answer on LyX's Mailing List. Also, check Gmane archive for "Texfiles.py", there were some issues regarding python in the past, maybe you'll find something useful.
