editing latex chapter command

Post by trikastlo »

I want to edit the latex chapter command so that the following changes occur.

1. Be able to specify the amount of padding before the text appears.
2. place the number and the chapter title on the same line.

I want to be able to do this whilst having the chapters still show up in the contents table. I currently know how to do the following.

\renewcommand{\chaptername}{}
chapter*{<name here>}

Thanks in advance

trik

P.s. I hope this post is in the correct section. sorry if its not i'm new

Take a look at the KOMA Script Bundle. It offers options for the chapter settings as requested. The documentation gives detailed descriptions.

Best regards and welcome on Board
