Page Layout ⇒ Chapter header in the form '1 Introduction'

Hello, I am trying to change the chapter's heading from
Chapter 1
Introduction

To:
1 Introduction

I've managed to remove the 'Chapter' by using

Code: Select all

\renewcommand{\chaptername}{}

but now I get
1
Introduction

How can I change them to be on the same line?
I am using the 'book' documentclass

use the features provided by the titlesec package.

Default setting in KOMA Script and easy customizable in the memoir class.
