Hi There.
I am new to lyx and would like to write my thesis with it. I have a problem with the bibliography function. To create a bibliography, I just went to the end of my document and created a bibliography-passage. Now I can create reference points which are consecutively numbered. To refer to a point of the reference list , I just put a bibliography - mark somwhere in my text. Now when I convert the lyx file to PDF, my problem occours..Instead of just the numbering of the literature I refered to, lyx creates the following: ..this is my example text (author?) [1] the text goes on... the [1] is right but I dont know why the (author?) is created.
I would be really glad if someone could help me with this

Problem with bibliography
Please, create a MWE (in your case, create an example .lyx file, put it in a .zip archive and attach it in your next post). And welcome to our community

Problem with bibliography
The problem is that you've chosen natbib citation style (Document > Settings > Bibliography). If you want to use natbib, you'll have to use bibliography database too, not manually created bibliography using the bibliography environment. For more infos about this take a look at LyX's User Guide, section 6.5.

Re: Problem with bibliography
Thank you! I have been thinking about bibtex. But as I think that I will have to use this portfolio of Literatre only once in my career, it does not make much sense to me to put work into a database.
Thank you and have a great day

Problem with bibliography
Even in case that you'll never need those references again, it's probably good idea to use bibtex, since creating a .bib file is rather simple (and if you don't want to create it using a text editor, you can always use some specialized software for the purpose, e.g. Mendeley, JabRef, Referencer etc.). Advantage of using a bibliography database over manually created bibliography is substantial. However, it's your call.

Re: Problem with bibliography
Hello
I had chosen the BOOk(KOMA,Script) document for my thesis. I have created refence database in Jabref.
Problem: For example, When i cite the reference in between the references [2] and [3], The new refnce must be [3] and consequently the [3] must be [4] and similarly it should be changed accordingly in the bibliography list. But it is not working like this.
Help me in this issue.
