MiKTeX and proTeXt ⇒ ps2epsi.exe - what does it do, where can I get it?

I have been having another go at getting Professor Gregorio's abcPlus musical notation package going (it seems Prof. Gregorio doesn't use Windows). I have managed to isolate a problem with the ps2epsi.exe utility, but cannot determine why it is not working.

I have checked that it is located in a directory referenced by the Windows Path variable, and even tried executing it directly from a DOS console window only to get the Bad command or filename error.

Executing ps2epsi -h (the usual request for a help message) produces the same result.

I am wondering if the ps2epsi included in my MikTeX distribution was:

• compiled for another system or chipset?
• damaged in some way?

Is there somewhere I could obtain another copy of ps2epsi.exe?

Your information is a little bit confusing. Is this really your system configuration? Your signature says something else. But the given system is more than ancient and should go into the museum.

I can't see what the hardware has to do with the problem. And a damaged file would not be executed.

I can locate a batch file as part of Ghostscript and of MiKTeX (exactly MiKTeX Ghostscript, MGS) as well as an executable as part of MiKTeX (2.8) on my Windows system. I can't say if this is also true for your MiKTeX version. Since I'm running Linux, this is all I can say.

Perhaps some links can help you [1,2]. As alternative you can try ps2eps, which seems to do a better job if the caption on its CTAN entry is to be believed.

re: my signature, that was on my other computer. Unfortunately, I am obliged to use the more antiquated hardware for TeXing. The older computer also runs Ubuntu, but is not equipped to get online, so adding the TeXLive package is not an option for me.

The part that has me baffled is the ps2epsi.exe file which apparently is completely useless to Windows (which also doesn't recognize a batch file command with the name ps2epsi).
