"Hello" - latex rookie passing by...

Post by dwellengers »

Hi there.

I have a bachelor in Nanoscience for Denmark and and im writing a master thesis on diffusion weighted imaging in ultra high fields.

So i decided to enter the realm of TeX. I have messed a little bit with it - written my curriculum vitae and a wishlist for christmas :). Next step is to write my master thesis with this lovely tool.

Any hints or good guides to address a writing process on a this scale? The Thesis should be formulatet as an scientific article, with bibliography and a lot of equations, pictures, appendices etc..

...oh and i should mention that i am a mac-user.

Help much appreach ;)

Regards

Although this is not the right place for specific advice, here are some suggestions. The LaTeX specific forums are for targeted questions.

You should rely on a class that supports chapters (you will need them). A good overview and material for beginners can be found in our special topic [1]. If you need some enhancements for special purposes, take a look at the TeX catalogue [2]. Packages and their manual are listed on CTAN. And finally you should take a look at the announcements on top of each forum index.

TeXshop is a good LaTeX editor for the mac, I know that many mac users are satisfied with it. Btw. I recommend to use MacTeX 2009 on OS X.

Best regards,
