Why is my directory not TDS-conformant ?
There's a .bst file that I want to use that's not part of MikTeX,
so I put it in the folder C:\Users\myName\Desktop\Software Installations\latex\bst
and then went to MikTeX settings -> roots -> add
and clicked on that folder.
But I get the message "Not a TDS-conformant root directory" with no indication as to how it is "not conformant"
I have tried changing the path several times but have had no luck. Any ideas as to how to fix this ?

You'd want to put a folder with bib files in [something]/bibtex/bin, not under latex.

As far as I know MiKTeX has special paths that are recognized as valid local TDS trees. You may try to put local additions there.
Code: Select all
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\MiKTeX\2.8
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\MiKTeX\2.8
