Renaming project files

Post by pwdav »

Problem:
Having started a project in Texniccenter 1.0 with "thesis.tex" as the main file. I've since created many subsidiary files such as "intro", "methods", "aminoacidspic", "signalmoleculespic".

Now that I've dozens of files, I've realised it would be handy to introduce a naming convention so that chapters, figures and tables are sorted as such in the project window's files tab (and in MS explorer), e.g. by adding "chap" prefix to chapter files, "fig" to figures etc. I can't figure out how to change filenames within a project though - e.g. if I change the filename of "intro.tex" to "chapintro.tex", the project manager doesn't recognise the new name.

Workarounds:
1) I can copy the contents into new subsidiary files with the appropriate names, then delete the old ones. This is fine but fiddly and I suspect there's a better way to achieve the same effect.

2) I can just use the project window's object and structure tabs - serviceable but not ideal as I'd like to have an interface that matches the actual .tex files themselves.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Best,

Pete
