Problem: LyX Freezes After Opening Spell Check

Post by bsatzinger »

I'm having a problem with LyX on Ubuntu. When I try to spell check a document (by clicking on the toolbar button), the spell check window opens, but it is blank. The entire program then becomes non-responsive until I close it by clicking the X in the main LyX window.

I initially ran into the problem on 9.04 netbook remix, and decided to try an operating system upgrade to the 9.10 release candidate (since I was going to upgrade the OS anyway) in case it fixed the problem. It did not.

I need spell-check functionality for LyX to be useful for me. I'm an engineering student, and have to write a long technical report over the next few weeks, and was hoping to use it as an excuse to use LyX instead of OpenOffice.

Version Numbers: Problem occurred on Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10, using Lyx 1.6.4 installed from synaptic. Aspell version 0.60.6 is installed.

Had exactly the same problem - but only when the cursor is at the end of the document. Try clicking at the start or somewhere in the middle of the text and then it should work properly.
