Graphics, Figures & Tables ⇒ High Resolution eps files

Hi,
I usually create some data in Excel, extract some charts from them, save those charts in jpg files, and save them as eps files via GIMP, but the quality of the pictures in latex files does not look good when transfer the tex file to pdf file. What kind of free softwares you use to draw a high resolution chart to include it in latex file as eps file?
