Hello -- looking to improve lyx wrangling skills

Post by lrp »

I'm a writer exploring independent publication of several books using lyx.

My week-long love-affair with lyx has entered the reality check phase -- can't get drop caps to work, need custom page header, not sure how to typeset frontmatter.

Lyx docs are great, but spotty on the issues that concern me. Posted question re: drop caps on lyx forum--no response.

It looks now like I need to dig under the hood of lyx and into the mysteries of latex to solve my few pesky problems.

Hope this a few good folks on this group can point the way.

All the best,

LRP

Hi,

For drop caps, check your other post. Regarding frontmatter, you can find infos on this forum, search a little ;-) I would recommend you to give memoir class a try, which has a great documentation in which you can find an answer to creating custom headers too (although you can always use fancyhdr package for that purpose; check fancyhdr documentation). In LyX, you may have to use Evil Red Text (ERT box) to set custom commands, but it'll be no problem. Hope this helps at least a little.

And welcome to the forum :-)
