I have a program which monitors the .tex files and image files and it would latex (or pdflatex) if it find that any of them changes.

Plus I use APS package and I don't know of any other way sort the references. This app will sort the references automatically.

This way you need to just update the tex files or any image files and dvi or pdf would be automatically updated. With YEP on Windows or preview on OS X they get automatically refreshed. Haven't worked on linux on a while but there should be viewer there too.

Written in perl but I can rewrite it in java too. Can be made to work on windows, linux, or OS X.

For perl, I can contribute to CPAN. Free of course.
