Howdy

Post by whitfield »

Hi LaTeX community,

I'm a Ph.D. student in mechanical engineering studying the product development process and uncertainty. I'm using LaTeX for my dissertation, and unfortunately, it is the first project where I've used LaTeX. While I love the benefits, specifically the automatic bibliography, indexing, and cross-referencing, I'm finding that I spend more time than I should trying to figure things out on my own.

This forum seems like it has a wealth of information that can help me save time. What convinced me to join up, however, is the respectful environment, e.g., encouraging new members to introduce themselves. For the near-term, I'm afraid I'll be posting more questions than answers. Hopefully, I'll eventually know enough to give back.

peace,
-Whit

It's better to have some experience in LaTeX when approaching a big project like a dissertation because there is a steep learning curve. But with a little help you will manage it. And don't bother about the correlation between questions and answers in your posts. As a beginner you are not expected to become an expert overnight.
