E. g., the program afm2tfm.exe in MikTeX bin will not execute in XP Dos Box, but afmtotfm.exe

We'll need more detail here. For me, afm2tfm works fine at the command prompt (MikTeX 2.7,WinXP Pro).

Thanks. There are probably some options missing, but: with afm2tfm pacsi.afm on the command line, I get the message "The system cannot execute the specified program." However, afmtotfm pacsi.afm returns a tfm file "with standard encoding." --rth
