Document Classes ⇒ New to LaTeX

I am new to LaTeX and have postes a few questions. I am a non-traditional engineering student going to school for my masters degress in mechanical engineering. I have been out of school for almost 20 years and have enjoyed the challange of LaTeX. I do need help with the same type of text/graphical overlays that I am use to in MS PowerPoint. I am using the beamer package. Does anyone have a good refrence besides the manual?

I'm just learning it myself. There's a quick tutorial here, which might be a good place to start. The documentation looks very comprehensive... but I too would appreciate any further resources anyone can recommend.
