Old-style fonts and features

Post by johnjamessmith0 »

Where can I find a free nice-looking old-style serif font (e.g. Palatino, Garamond) that supports ligatures, real small caps, a set of matching math symbols, and old style numerals, and is fully compatible with commonly used packages including amsmath?

Kp fonts would be just that... except for the fact that it looks weird (The T's, F's, and E's have the right corners of their upper bars shaved off, and the italic w's, v's and y's look... strange).

With this sentence you unfortunately excluded the kpfonts as the only font package I would have recommended. I personally use it for nearly all my documents because it is one of the rare complete font sets and it looks good to me. But that's a matter of taste. You may try mathpazo or the pxfonts.

Well, thanks. I guess I'll just use kpfonts... I'm already getting used to it.

I can't believe Palatino doesn't support ligatures.

Palatino was designed that way in purpose. Look at the "f", it won't clash with the "i".

But the crossbars in ff or fi don't even connect, which is annoying. (Ok, picky, but...)
