Unexpected page number, on page 2

Post by mr_cloud_person »

I'm using the book document class for the first time and the page numbers are behaving as I'd expect.
I get:
Title page, no page number (good)
Blank page, numbered 2 (bad!)
Foreword, numbered i (good)
...
First chapter, numbered 1 (good)
etc...

Can I stop the blank page after the title page from getting a number at all?

Minimal reproduction case:

Code: Select all

\documentclass[12pt]{book}

\usepackage[total={129mm, 198mm}]{geometry} % UK ``B format''

\usepackage{caption}
\usepackage{hyperref}
\usepackage{graphicx}
\graphicspath{ {./images/} }

\title{title}
\author{Author}
\date{} % No date

\begin{document}

\maketitle

\frontmatter

\chapter{Foreword}
    Blah blah foreword

\tableofcontents

\mainmatter

\chapter{The first chapter}
    first chaptery words

\end{document}
