"bold" font in equations

I just updated from LyX version 2.2.3 to version 2.3.2 (on my iMac, with macOS Mojave version 10.14.3). My problem is that in version 2.3.2 I cannot make a letter "bold" within an equation. (I can use "bold" within a line of text, but NOT within an equation.) Can someone advise me how to apply "bold" within an equation?
