Trouble with running xymtexps 4.03 under MiKTeX

Post by jilly »

With help from the forum post by andreas (thank you!), I managed to
install xymtexps in such a way that MiKTeX could find and read it;
however, everything hangs up when MiKTeX gets to the Macro file
titled "sizeredc". I get an error message that identifies an undefined
control sequence in line 137.

The line is as follows:

\let\oldlineslope=\lineslope%used only in the manual

I tried deleting the line, but got a similar error message for the new line 137.

I have searched the web for this error message, but have come up blank,
but I cannot believe that I am the only person how has had this problem.

So my questions are:

1. Has someone seen this before, and if so, how did you fix it?

2. Does anyone know what would be the consequences of deleting the entire Macro file?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Please note that I have tried inactivating line 136 of the "sizered" file, as follows

%\reducedsizepicture%size-reduction setting

This strategy allowed the program to run, but I do not know what effect it will have
in future. I will keep the community posted on followup problems, if any, but I am still
curious to know whether this problem has been experienced by others, and if so,
what solutions you devised.

I tried installing xymtexps on another computer at this site, and
was successful. The sole difference that I could detect was the version
of MiKTeX 2.7 on each computer. So I conclude that there was a bug
in the version I was using. Any version at or beyond 2.7.3164 should
work fine. The current version is 2.7.3224, and once I upgraded. I had
no problems. My apologies for wasting the time of the group on this question,
but I hope the discussion may be of use to someone.

Cheers
