Document Classes ⇒ Access to BibTeX fields in document

Is there a way to access individual BibTeX fields in a LaTeX document? For example I would like BibTeX fill in the spaces in the following sentance:
The author of ____________, written in the year __________, clearly discusses the history of \latex \cite{refName}.

The natbib package will give you some functionality: the year or author fields of a BibTeX entry can be used directly. See: http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/ ... tnotes.pdf

However, I do not know how to cite the title (your first blank space) from a BibTeX entry. Perhaps you should try playing around with the "Citation aliasing" feature of natbib as a workaround?
