Problems to select text in Lyx 2.1.4 / Ubuntu 16.04

Post by regenpfeifer »

Hello,

I am using Lyx since several years with different Linux distributions
(Ubuntu, Debian Jessie 8.x etc.).

Currently I have installed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS - and am facing a very strange
an annoying problem: I have difficulties to select longer or even shorter
pieces of text with the keyboard or mouse.

If I am trying to select some text, the selection captures only short
passages and fails after some words or paragraphs, regardless of whether I
am selecting with the mouse or with keyboard shortcuts. All other programmes
(text editor, Libre Office etc.) are working correctly and I can select text
without any problems.

I am facing this problem with at least 4 computers, all of them have
installed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and LyX 2.1.4. I am running another machine with
Debian 8.x and have no problems at all. Of course I have tried different
keyboards and mice, I have also reinstalled LyX and TexLive and I have
deleted my old LyX configuration files.

I would very much appreciate all hints and tips to solve this problem.

Yours, Hermann Josef

I am sorry, scottkosty. I have been writing via the web browser and it was not clear to me that www.latex-community.org and gmane.editors.lyx.general are connected. They seemed to be separate communities / forums.

Thanks for the reply, Hermann. I'm sure you did not mean to do anything wrong. The problem is not whether they are connected or not. The issue is if people spend their time to help you when the problem is (possibly) already solved on one but not the other. That's why it's important to reference all the places you made the question. Please read the link to understand more.

Problems to select text in Lyx 2.1.4 / Ubuntu 16.04

Hello Scott, hello all,

o.k., I understand. As I am not an English native speaker I was misleaded by the expression "cross-posting" and thought I should avoid this. As it now seems, that cross-posting is permitted, I would like to add another forum, where I already asked my question:

https://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/lyx- ... -von-text/

At http://article.gmane.org/gmane.editors. ... eral/86822 Guillaume gave me the advice to try LyX 2.2 from the Ubuntu-PPAs. Unfortunately this also didn't work. So it seems, that a solution for my problem is not easy. Nevertheless I hope for further hints.

Thankfully yours,
Hermann Josef
