Problem installing TeXnicCenter
the information you are giving are quite few.
You posted in the proTeXt subforum, is it involved in any way? I remember, that the maintainer of proTeXt decided to go with TeXmaker a while back.
Right now, version 2.02 of TeXniccenter is stable. Did you install that version?
Are there any more information you can provide?
Re: Problem installing TeXnicCenter
For your information:
1) I had previously (2010) installed TeX from ProteXt, installing MiXtek and TeXnicCenter via their pdf file protext-install-en.pdf. Tex worked perfectly.
2) In January 2015 Dell had to cure some problems on my PC, setting up a new account for me with "clean" MS files, but supposedly leaving all my private downloads untouched.
3) TeXnicCenter then no longer worked: instead of compiling the tex file I had opened, it tried to compile a tex ini file. The compilation failed, registering the error "Your input file is more than 5 years old", also encountered - I noticed - by other users.
4) I followed the advice given, installing MiXtek 2.9 from the MiXtek website.
5) I then tried to install TexnicCenter from protext-install-en.pdf again, but this failed; I got the "addons" error I reported.
6) Also, since yesterday, I have spotted the file installTC.bat in directory proteXt.addons on my PC!
It looks as though these various tex-related systems don't quite mix! But it is somewhat confusing for a non-expert. Can you recommend a help source which explains the function of proteXt, MiXtek, TC etc and the relations between them?
Thanks again, Robert

The TeX/LaTeX community is very active, doing new stuff, developing, not standstill. As this is going on, information once published gets obsolete.
The TeX User Group list some TeX related software in the left of the side, you can find some descriptions there as well.
Personally, i use TeX Live, coming with a simple to use editor and nearly all CTAN packages. TeX Live is maintained by the TUG itself consisting of a team of experts.
MikTeX and proTeXt on the other hand are maintained by individuals, which is quite a task. MikTeX (an hence proTeXt) only run on Windows right now, TeX Live runs on many operating systems.
What you choose in the end, is depending on personal taste, really
