Lyx 2.1.2 PDF Preview Extremely Slow

Post by BrianM »

Hi there,

I updated today from Lyx 2.04 to 2.1.2 on my Windows 7 PC, and am now having trouble with the PDF preview.
Both View and Update are taking approximately 30 seconds to complete, most of that time seemingly spent with Acrobat refreshing.

As per http://www.latex-community.org/forum/vi ... 19&t=10855, I tried changing the Viewer to Custom=>AcroRd32, which did greatly speed up the process, but prevents me from updating the pdf and also gives me a warning about Adobe Reader Protected Mode, so this doesn't seem to be the answer.

I was wondering whether anyone would have any ideas as to what could be going wrong?

FYI I'm using MikTeX 2.9 and Adobe Acrobat 11.

Regards,

Brian

Lyx 2.1.2 PDF Preview Extremely Slow

Hi and welcome,

i am not a LyX user and cannot give any LyX specifix advice. Maybe you should address this to other LyX users directly. We are a bit short on LyX helpers right now. :-(

I can give you a general advice though -- drop acrobat and use Sumatra Pdf instead :-)

I used Sumatra back in my windows days, it is lightweight and opens pdf very very fast. You can find more details over at the LyX wiki.

Have a lot of fun with Sumatra
Johannes

PS: Wow, Sumatra supports a lot of other file formats, including ebooks. This is good news
The smart way: Calm down and take a deep breath, read posts and provided links attentively, try to understand and ask if necessary.

Hi Johannes,

Thanks for the help. It worked!
I don't know whether I'll be using Sumatra as my default reader for everything just yet, but I set it as my viewer for Lyx and it's now working brilliantly.

Thanks very much,

Brian
