Hyphenation

Post by zaradek »

How could I get to know the places where LaTeX can divide a word? For example I would like to know what are the syllables of "dimension". Is there a more effective way to find it out then compiling the first page of my attachment?

The second problem is that using hyphen in a word prevents it from hyphenation as you can see on the second page of my attachment. Can we get LaTeX to be able to divide these expressions as well? Moreover, we can't even put "2-di-men-sion" into \hyphenation, because it can not contain numbers.

Hyphenation

Post by Stefan Kottwitz »

Hi Máté,

use \showhyphens:

Code: Select all

\showhyphens{dimension}
will print this to the logfile:

Code: Select all

[] \OT1/cmr/m/n/10 di-men-sion
Second, you could use \- and declare all possible places:

Code: Select all

2\-di\-men\-sion

Thanks Stefan, the \showhyphens command works fine.

Can you specify "2\-di\-men\-sion" in the preamble for the whole document as well?
