I have to submit an article in Journal of nanoparticle research. I use Lyx 2.0 and the document class is unavailable. Now I have downloaded the package from the journal's website which has the following files.
NEW: TikZ book now 40% off at Amazon.com for a short time.

Fortunately, LyX already has the layout file for svjour3 class included in its basic install so its just a matter of getting the other files into a location that LyX will find them. Since I don't have the files you downloaded, I have no way of trying this, but I think the first thing I'd try is to copy the template file and the bst files into a new folder in your usual documents folder (My Documents if you're a windows user). Then, I'd double click on the tex file - it should open the default tex program which came bundled with your LaTeX installation when you installed LyX - if you're a windows user, it will probably be MikTeX. I'd then compile the template. This should send MikTeX looking for the other files you downloaded and, in theory, it will find them on ctan and put them in the correct folder by itself. You'll know it did this if a pdf version of the template opens on its own. If that works, close that out and open LyX and go to the Tools menu and hit Reconfigure. Wait while it runs and then close and reopen LyX when instructed to do so. Start a New Document and check in Document Settings to see if the Springer SV Global (V.3) class is now listed as available. If it is, go to File>Import>LaTeX (plain) and navigate to the template file that you pasted in your documents folder. You'll have to check the results to see if they look like the pdf you saw in MiKTeX, but that should get you to where you can start working. If this process fails at any point, come back here and post so we can try to come up with a solution.
