Copy and paste table float doesnt work - should it?

Post by KSgemgem »

Hi all

I am having trouble trying to copy a table float with a populated table in it and then paste it elsewhere in the same document.

I am using LyX 2.1.1 and have tried all of the usual things one might try but all that ever happens is the caption text is copied and then pasted, never the table in in float.

I have searched but haven,t found anywhere that actually says it cant be done nor are there many mentions of a similar issue. In fact, others have implied that you should be able to copy and past a table float within the same document.
The only real reference to a similar thing I have found is this http://www.latex-community.org/forum/vi ... =19&t=1048 but the problem isn't actually addressed.

I've tried:
- Select whole float and ctrl+c then ctrl+v (or ctrl+shft+v) somewhere else.

- Copying just the table in the float and pasting it in another table float (doesn't copy the same text).

- All of the paste special commands and menu commands.

- Copying just the table and caption.

Should I be able to copy and paste a whole table float with all of the contents duplicated or is this something that LyX just cant do? It makes it very difficult and tedious to duplicate tables by not being able to just copy and past them.

Surely I'm just missing a setting or some special way to manage the copy/paste of a table float.

Any help or suggestions welcome.

Cheers
James

Any takers?

I have tried it on 2 different computers now with the same results (both running Windows 7)

I've also since downloaded a fresh copy of LyX and reinstalled it, yet have the same problems.

I've also noticed that sometimes when I have tried to copy and paste a selected float, following ctrl+v the save file popup appears asking to save the .emf file, so it seems like LyX thinks I am trying to paste an externally copied file (don't know if its linked or not).

Well I haven't found root the cause but it is most certainly linked to the Windows 7 clipboard and interruptions that occur during or after a remote desktop session is used. Presumably this means it has something to do with the virtual clipboard that is used.

If a PC is started and LyX is run without ever establishing a remote desktop connection, then copy and past in LyX is as normal and I can successfully paste a table float (with all the contents in tact).

However, if a remote desktop session is started then it stops working until the PC is restarted (and without a remote desktop connection being established). To be clear about the remote desktop connection, the problem occurs when using the host PC and not the remote connection (although it of course also happens when using a remote PC).

This has been tested on 3 PCs now, all with LyX 2.1.1 and running Windows 7 and XP, as well as 3 remote access softwares (TeamViewer, Remote Utilities and Windows Remote Desktop).

So if you are having similar problems and are running (or have run) a remote desktop connection during the current PC session, then the problem might be a combination of windows clipboard and remote access software issues. The only way to keep it operational might be to not use LyX 2.1.1 with a remote connection and to restart the PC before using LyX if you have made a remote connection during the session.
