Creating 3D figure with TikZ

Post by robmlough »

I have a 3-dimensional compound figure that I would like to create using TikZ. The figure is in the form of a cube sitting inside a sphere, within which is exactly fits, that is, s, the side length of the cube is given by

s = 2*r/sqrt(3), where r is the radius of the sphere.

I would like to annotate the figure and include a 3-d Cartesian grid in which the cube is sitting. I am very much a beginner with TikZ and PGF but have been using LaTeX for almost 10 years. Many thanks!

By any chance, are you the same person who has posted a similar question at
tex.stackexchange?

This looks very much like a cross-post of this question on tex.sx. This is usually frowned upon, see also Gimme Pizza!.

Yes, this is the same poster. I am very surprised by the fact that nobody has suggested an answer on either forum. Perplexed even!

Actually some comments were made on TeX.sx, therefore I think it it's best to continue the discussion over there to prevent people from duplicating effort (see the link in my previous post).
