Automatic Installation of missing Packages

Post by ilsalix85 »

Hi,

I'm using MiKTeX 2.9 and TeXworks as editor. In the first place, how could I make MiKTeX automatically install missing packages once called in the editor?

In fact, at the moment I'm trying to install them from MiKTeX package list but I get a connection error.

Please, could you advise about that?

Thanks.

Best regards,

Antonio

Automatic Installation of missing Packages

Post by ilsalix85 »

I'll be more clear and specific.

I'm having some problems at downloading the missing packages. Indeed, despite I had selected the option "installing missing packages on the fly" in my settings, the system is not able to find them.

Apparently there is a connection issue since when I try to use both the default package repository and others links the system lets me choose (I tried the UK's ones first, should I choose anyone else in particular according to you?) I get the following error types.
  1. The operation could not be completed for the following reason:
Windows API error 5: Denied Access
    or
  2. A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
The same error occurs when I try to load the packages from Package manager.

Hope some of you could be of help.

Thanks.

Best regards,

Antonio

Automatic Installation of missing Packages

Make sure by looking at the MiKTeX repositories that the chosen one is not offline. The one in Ireland you mentioned in your last post is concerned. Hence you have to choose another repository.

I had a first look to them.
I entered th Settings-->Packages menu and I changed the default link with the following one (it's one of the UK's servers shown as online):

https://anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/mirro ... ros/latex/
OR
https://anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/mirro ... x/contrib/

Anyway, when I try to connect to it, I get the following error:
"get proxy host by name failed in tcp_connect()"

Another doubt. Generally speaking, for each server I try, should I always refer to the CTAN directory to find the packages connection?

Thanks.

Hi,

I made some progresses. I brought some changes to the safety setting (permissions/administrator full rights) according to what mentioned here (http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/ ... kz-picture). That's probably cause when I installed MiKTex I selected the option "install only for me" rather than "install for all users".
However, now I'm able to use package manager to install the packages by selecting them from the list and connecting to the following link (https://anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/mirro ... x/contrib/) which it's working properly.
Nevertheless, MiKTex is still not asking me to install missing packages when compiling.
Any idea about the reasons why it is not doing that?

Thanks.
