Using Texmaker on a Mac and I've run into a curious problem: On my Macbook, the pipe '|' key prints to screen no problem, but on my Imac, it is there as a space. In other words, it's invisible but recognized when doing a Quick Build. Any tips on what's wrong?

Welcome to the LaTeX community.
Seems like the font you're using in the editor on your imac doesn't have the symbol and instead outputs nothing... First thing I'd try would be to use another font...
Maybe it's an encoding issue instead although it doesn't sound like it would be.
