Hello to all,

I am a old Latex user, created my master thesis with it but that was quite a lot time ago.

Now that I come back to writing technical documents I seek a good and challenging forum to support my attempts to come back to Latex.

So in advance, thanks to all for your time and patience maintaining and fuelling this forum as it will support me getting back to it!

As for my first question or first project using Latex will require (I am not posting this as yet I do not know if such question was already answered or not!):

Any how for you to know my first Latex projet will involve:
-Batching: The creation of 20 large tables of X row and 4 columns, where each table's column will include: C1) an ID, C2) an image, C3) descriptive text (English Paragrah 1, French Paragraph 2), and C4) another image.
-Why batching because, I have over 700 images to integrate in this document, and I already have all the text.
-Why do I need Latex then? Because FORMATTING is a pain.
-What do I want?
Well all my image are vector image (.eps) file.
The scale of these images cannot be altered as they get integrated in the file (but they can be croped by the table cells).
The challenge I am facing is when two images of different size are used on the same row, in these cases I which to set the row height equal the smallest image.

So that is pretty much it!

So if you guys can guide me through this I believe, I will definitely and willingly become a life member and a dedicated latex user.

If you have any reading suggestion, great ideas or question do not be shy and reply.

(I just download Texmaker, I will do my testing using it, I hope it is a good choice).

So best regards to all.

Hi V8extra,

welcome to the forum!

It's nice to read that you return to LaTeX at the occasion of writing technical documents. Yes, LaTeX is very suitable for this, also for batch processing, working with a lot of data and a large amount of images.

Texmaker is a good choice. There's TeXstudio providing some other features, a fork of Texmaker. I prefere the quick and clean TeXworks editor, both on Linux and Windows.

Your project sounds interesting! Indeed, a forum search may give some starting points. Generally, the forum works best if you would post one topic for each problem, which is perfect for discussing each part. Though it's nice to read the complete description here.

So, I look forward to reading about your projects and the challenges you are facing, in the other subforums beside this introducion subforum.
