Sign Language glossing with suitable horizontal Lines

Post by kabest »

Hi everyone,

In writing English transcriptions of sign languages, aspects of a sign that involve facial expressions are indicated with a horizontal line above the relevant segment, as shown here:

Is there a reliable way to match a line segment's length to a portion of text without just guessing?

NEW: TikZ book now 40% off at Amazon.com for a short time.

And: Currently, Packt sells ebooks for $4.99 each if you buy 5 of their over 1000 ebooks. If you choose only a single one, $9.99. How about combining 3 LaTeX books with Python, gnuplot, mathplotlib, Matlab, ChatGPT or other AI books? Epub and PDF. Bundle (3 books, add more for higher discount): https://packt.link/MDH5p

You can use \settowidth to compute the width of a portion of text, but you might want to have a look at the gb4e package as that is designed for glosses.
