Back I think in 2004 I purchased "Adobe Type Basics" in the Type 1 format.
This bundle includes the Base35 postscript fonts and a bunch of others.
I would like pdflatex to use the Adobe versions of the fonts instead of the URW versions.
I went through and renamed them all according the the berry names, which are almost identical to the URW names except (obviously) the Adobe start with 'p' instead of 'u'. Also, it looks like the narrow flavors of Helvetica use an 'n' instead of 'c'.

it looks like it is recommended to remake the tfm, vpl, etc. files as it is possible the metrics have changed slightly in the versions of fonts with Adobe Type Basics. Which is idiotic if they have, but if they have they have. Can anyone comment on that? Is it really necessary?
If I do have to rebuild the tex related files, I'm guessing they need to go into TEXMFLOCAL so they are actually used instead of the texlive dist files?

Re: Using the Adobe Base35 fonts
It clearly needs something, I tried just telling updmap to use LW35 ADOBEkb results in pdftex dying from fonts that are more bytes than expected.
