Naming Scheme for Custom Font Installation

Post by AliceWonder »

I did this once before, for a mono spaced font (Lucida Mono), in that case I had all four normal variants (roman, bold, italic, bold-italic) and it works very well - there's a few bugs, \registeredtrademark for example could be better. But anyway -

I want to do it again, this time for a script font where I only have 1 variant.

The font: http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/shinn/hand ... eview.html

Going through the naming, it looks like
  • f - small foundry
  • h4 - this I'm less sure about. The font name is Handsome Classic, there are several others in the Handsome family, h was chosen for Handsome and 4 was chosen because it was arbitrary character with h4 not in use in the fontname.pdf
  • r regular
  • 8a - character encoding, I believe it is 8a
So the .pfb / .afm scheme would be : fh4r8a__.{afm,pfb}

Is this correct or am I missing something?

Thanks for suggestions.
