I'm a new LyX user currently working on a math book. In my book I have many math problems (examples and practice problems). I want to build a database of all these problems for many reasons such as re-using them later for a web/mobile based application. Obviously it's also very nice to have such a database for management/maintenance purposes. I would like the database to be integrated into LyX so that I can cross-reference the problems anywhere in the book.
After some research, it seems to me that BibTeX has a very similar concept, except that people use it for bibliography management. I wonder if BibTeX supports math formulas the way LyX/Tex does? Can it later be converted to some common database format such as MySQL? Or is there something better out there that I should use for my situation?
Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

In case you don't find a tool that does what you want, LyX is very customizable. It has good support for extending it to use external tools. See Help > Customization for a technical description of many ways to do this.
