Hello,
I am trying to learn LaTeX for mainly finance and statistics, Art of Problem Solving recommends MiKTeX and TeXnicCenter.
These two software sub-forums also have here the highest amount of posts and thread, so I assume MiKTeX and TeXnicCenter is the way to go?

Some years ago, MiKTeX was easier to install and to update on Windows and was the only TeX distribution with a good package manager. Today I prefer TeX Live, as it developed much, installation is also easy and there's a very good package management.
Both already provide TeXworks as a LaTeX editor, so this can be a good start. I use that one too. But it's a matter of taste,if you like to have a complex powerful editor with toolbars and buttons, such as TeXnicCenter, or a simple and efficient one such as TeXworks. Both can be recommended.

I decided to go with texmaker, it's nice and clean. But the user manual does not have too much content.

I usually use Java-based LaTeX editors that work on any windows, Linux or Mac platforms. Here is a list
RTextDoc http://jwork.org/rtextdoc/ - has a grammar checker and many advanced features
jEdit - a general-purpose editor perfect works with LaTeX
SCaVis http://jwork.org/scavis/ - another free Java editor that has a structure viewer, syntax checker and bibtex manager
