Hallo Forum!
I'm a few-minute newcomer and ready to describe my trouble mentioned in the title.
This is the answer obtained with the console command: pdflatex filename.tex (O.S. Windows-Xp)

and next is the minimal code I've tried to compile:

Code: Select all

Code, edit and compile here:
\documentclass[a4paper,11pt]{article}%
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage[italian]{babel}

velocit\`{a}.

In other words, the failure on downloading libertine package from any repository chosen through the mask doesn't permit to complete the compilation. Please, be noticed that I've tried several repos, not only the italians one, with the same frustrating answer.
Please, could someone replicate my test?
Thanks in advance & Cheers

MikTex 2.9:failure on downloading libertine from repository

Post by Stefan Kottwitz »

Hi,

welcome to the board!

Today Libertine development goes to OpenType. This requires XeTeX or LuaTeX. You could switch to one of those engines. For classic LaTeX, there's the package libertine-legacy which you could install. The OTF package is libertineotf.

Hi Stefan,
first of all, thank you for your quick answer.
I've just tried through the command: luatex trial.tex, being trial.tex the above short code. Please, look at next failing log file:

Code: Select all

This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.70.1-2011080216 (rev 4277) (format=luatex 2012.4.20) 20 APR 2012 07:09

Actually, LuaTeX and XeTeX are so called engines, like TeX. Still the LaTeX format is required on top, so the compiling tools would be lualatex or xelatex.

MikTex 2.9:failure on downloading libertine from repository

Post by Sundial »

Hi Stefan.
Still problems arise, due to repos. Please, let me notice you that earlier I've installed libertine-legacy through the zipped CTAN package transferred here: C:\Programmi\miktex-2-9\tex\latex\libertine, being the subfolder \libertine the one containing 4 folders coming from the above gzipfile.
Then, Start->MikTex->Maintenance->Settings->Ok and clicking on "Refresh FNDB". Successful updating.
So, next easy command has been: pdflatex trial.tex -> failure, as shown in the att'd figure.
Cheers

As libertine-legacy is provides as MiKTeX package, I recommand to install this one, using the MiKTeX package manager, instead of the one from CTAN.

Metaphorically speaking, the matter seems like "the dog who tries to bite its queue". In fact, due to the failure of package manager (repos' 404 errors) I've driven my attention to CTAN package! So, now, as said in France, I'm in a ... "cul de sac"! Libertine from repos fails, and libertine from internal package needs repos' support, too.
Never mind, Stefan. Thank you for your assistance given up to now and best wishes

MikTex 2.9:failure on downloading libertine from repository

Post by Stefan Kottwitz »

Not exactly: you tried to install libertine.tar.lzma which doesn't exists, but you need libertine-legacy.tar.lzma, which does exist. You can see it if you go to http://ctan.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/CTAN ... /packages/, the URL which you posted in the beginning from the log.

The log above was from automatic installation, obviously, where the wrong package was searched, automatically. And I meant: use the package manager program and explicitly install libertine-legacy. If this would fail, it's stuck, but I did not see that you tried it.

Hi Stefan,
the story doesn't change any more! In fact, as you can see from the att'd picture, by dezipping the red wrapped file I've obtained the big folder \texmf, moved it up to C:\Programmi\miktex-2-9\latex\tex and refreshed everything! Failure again, unfortunately!
Cheers

And why don't you try the package manager program?
Or did you, and the package is not listed there? Perhaps show a screenshot of that - for now I still guess you haven't uses it yet.
