Page Layout ⇒ Spacing Problem in LoF

I'm experiencing a small problem with the horizontal spacing in the list of figures, as shown on the picture below :

In some other cases, the figure's caption is so large that I get some heavy bloc of text (the full caption, actually) in the list of figures. I'm not sure this is appropriate.

What do you suggest to solve this ?

Here's my current preamble setup for the list of figures :

\renewcommand{\cftfigaftersnum}{~:}

I would use the optional argument of \caption to get a shorter caption version for the list of figures:

\caption[short version for LoF]{longer version for the text}
