LyX on Ubuntu

I just installed LyX on Ubuntu 10.10 and when I want to preview or compile to DVI, PS or PDF the response I get is such as
No information for exporting the format PDF (pdflatex)
I have reconfigured LyX and also rescan the paths to LaTeX classes but not yet getting anywhere.
