Section Titles and Blank Space on Pages

Post by latexhelp1 »

How may I please tell LaTeX that I would not like to have extra space on the bottom of a page when the next line is a section (or subsection) title?

My goal is to conserve the number of pages...

Section Titles and Blank Space on Pages

I'm not certain what you mean. If you mean that TeX is starting a new page instead of printing a lone section heading with no text below it at the bottom, then you'll need to redefine the penalty. You can also redefine the club and widow penalties to zero if you don't mind there being widow and clubbed (orphan) lines:

Code: Select all

\clubpenalty=0 % Page break after a single line of text starting a paragraph
\widowpenalty=0 % Page break before a single line of text ending a paragraph
\predisplaypenalty=0 % Page break before math display
\postdisplaypenalty=0 % Page break after math display
I don't know what the penalty is for breaking before a section heading, but the above might already have taken care of it.
