LaTex control lookup

Post by h9uest »

Hi All:

This is a new member to the forum. I'm learning LaTex and if there is a table which contains commonly used LaTex controls and descriptions of them, that'll be great.

For example, the ideal table will contain \textit{} and description of the control, including parameter expected, function of this control and hopefully other things that are good to know about this particular control.

I did some search but couldn't find one. Please share a link if you know it!
Thanks, and I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

LaTex control lookup

Hi,

welcome to the board!

If you mean a LaTeX command reference, here is one: Hypertext LaTeX Help.

Thanks for the immediate reply!

It looks great! However, I didn't find \textit{} and \textbf{}, etc in it. Those are all from an introductory example tex file, and I guess they're all commonly used?

So could you please provide a more comprehensive one?

Anyway, thanks a lot for the link!

It's here, obviously not easy to find because these few specific commands haven't been listed:
LaTeX Font Selection.

Btw. here's a nice table regarding font selection commands with output examples:

If you happen to speak German -- which a surprisingly high number of people on this board happen do do -- you might like this website:

http://www.weinelt.de/latex/

I use it a lot though it's not very up to date.
I'm using pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-1.40.10 (TeX Live 2009/Debian).

Yes, it's a very useful reference for LaTeX 2.09 and most of it is still valid for the current LaTeX 2e.

Thanks for the updates!
I don't speak German, but it's okay. With online page-translation, language barrier isn't a real problem anymore.

You may take a look at the (unofficial) LaTeX Reference Manual [1]. It's in English and more up to date than the one by Weinelt.

[1] LaTeX2e reference manual (May 2011)
