MiKTeX and proTeXt ⇒ Problem with subsequent Package Installation

Hey,

I am having the exact same problem as described in another topic [1]. I suspect the same solution applies. I followed the directions in the MiKTeX 2.8 issues page (I selected yes for on the fly updates) and yet that seems to do nothing for TeXnicCenter. It is still ending with the error "GUI framework cannot be initialized"

I attempted to update the packages manually. I searched for the updates (which was successful), but any time i attempt to click on an update I get "This package is currently installed for all users. Only the admin variant of the wizard can update this package".
