Hi
I use GNU Emacs and am a LaTeX novice. When I use as texing option "pdf", I can run it (there is a pdf-file with the proper name) but when I run it again it doesn't have a default viewer for pdf-files (I get: start "" nameoffile.pdf). Where can I set the program for viewing pfd-files?

LaTeX, Emacs and PDF
Hi Arny,
welcome to the LaTeX Community board!
Do you use AuCTeX? Are you sure that you want to use Emacs for writing LaTeX? I guess you are using Linux. I am writing with Kile on Linux, that's very good and comfortable for me. See its homepage.
TeXmaker is also a nice LaTeX Editor.
I tried GNU Emacs too but I didn't like it. You may find documentation for GNU Emacs and AUCTeX on the AUCTeX homepage.
If you tell me how you installed Emacs with TeX support (maybe with a link to the HowTo) I could test it on my system and perhaps help with the pdf viewing configuration. My Emacs is just not configured for TeX. If you consider to test another editor (Kile, TeXmaker) ist may be not necessary,

I use GNU Emacs on Windows Vista. I started using Emacs because I do a lot of statistical work with R, modelling with GAMS and writing in LaTeX. A year ago I had for every application a different editor and none of them I used very efficiently. Now I can use AucTeX with Emacs, ESS (Emacs Speaks Statistics) and GAMS for Emacs and don't have to change the editor and learn all the tricks for 3 different editors.
I now that somewhere in the settings you can set for example Yap as viewer for dvi-files, and at the same place there is an option for pdf. However, I can't find it anymore in Emacs...

I will have a look into my emacs too (Linux), if I should find something I will tell you. Maybe anybody else knows the configuration.
