Un-numbered sections in Frontmatter

Post by Sekantombi »

Friends,

How to do:

Un-numbered headings in frontmatter that still appear in TOC?

Starred versions don't appear in TOC, yet normal sections produce result: "0.0.1" etc. which ain't good.

Is there some way to combine starred sections with [optional title]?

Un-numbered sections in Frontmatter

Hi Sekantombi,

you can combine starred sections with \addcontentsline.
Or manipulate the secnumdepth counter, look here into the UK TeX FAQ: Unnumbered sections in the Table of Contents.

Thanks Stefan,

Will investigate that --- not thinking too clearly after a long day's TeX-ing.

Strange thing I'm struggling with at the moment.

By manipulating secnumdepth and tocdepth, and starring various things in frontmatter, got the effect that I wanted. Will look at yours too --- probably more elegant.

However, with mine I have a strange effect --- 'Contents' appears in the header (fancyhdr being used) until the first chapter starts.

How do I stop this from happening?

Have fairly extensive frontmatter (~26pp.)

Hi Sekantombi,

you can use \markboth to override or to clear the headings after \tableofcontents.
