Stuck on removing unwanted TAB characters

Post by M4R5 »

I'm brand new to LaTeX and LyX, and the first thing that's got me stuck is this error message:
"Misplaced alignment tab character &."
The message itself makes sense, but there are no tabs shown in the main text area, and no tabs shown in the source window at the bottom. So where is this tab? I know where it's meant to be but how can I see it and why can't I see it already? And how can I remove it? Further more, where's the 'just remove it' button?

It won't let me edit the source so I have to wonder why it's there, and if on compilation MiKTeX (or whatever) is finding tab characters then the source shown isn't the real source, so what's the point?

Can anyone explain all this?

Thanks
