Page Layout ⇒ column correspondence

Hi guys!

I'm trying to write a few pages of text on two columns, but i have to keep a correspondence btw the two columns (as in a translation: each phrase or group of phrases on the left as to be correlated to one or more on the right. ). Is there a smarter alternative to \twocolumn command or tables (where future changes would be crazy...)?

The multicolumn package offers a smarter alternative, it provides also balancing of columns.
