TeX Live and MacTeX ⇒ Restore TexLive installation from Time Machine backup

Hi everyone,
I recently reinstalled my system but I do have a complete backup of my old one.
On the old system I had TexLive 2008 installed and I would like to transfer the installation to the new system.
I tried to copy the /usr/local/texlive folder, but this did not help.
I even downloaded basicTex, installed it and tried to copy the texmf folders from the old installation, because in basictex e.g. the ucs package seems to be missing and I had spent some time setting up some latex configurations on the old system. I can hardly download a new texLive package, as I'm in Tanzania and the internet is extremely slow.
I'm using OS X 10.6 and want to use Textmate.
